I ran across an article recently that discussed concerns that a large portion of our history, recorded on tapes, vinyl records, slides, movies film and paper, is in real danger of being left in limbo because of the lack of means to digitize these artifacts. What was surprising to me is that only 10 percent of the records in the Library of Congress are planned to be digitized.

Apple released a big security patch for its Mac OS X operating system Tuesday. The mega-update patches some 45 weak spots, including several zero-day vulnerabilities. About one-third of the fixes address security issues revealed on the Month of Kernel Bugs and Month of Apple Bugs blogs. This latest update marks the seventh time Apple has released a security patch since the start of 2007.

Al Gore on Monday launched his revolutionary new TV for the Internet generation in Britain. The 24-hour Current TV service, screened on Sky and Virgin Media, allows viewers to decide what is shown and when, and make their own programs. The channel, described as the television equivalent of the iPod, went on air Monday with a mix of news, fashion, music, politics and the environment.
