Apple Computer is set to announce at San Francisco's Macworld Expo the development of a device that combines its iPod with a cell phone. Cingular Wireless would provide the phone's cell phone service. The product would give Apple access to the wireless market, which accounts for nearly 1 billion handsets a year. Apple sold 39.4 million iPods for $7.68 billion in its most recent fiscal year ended Sept. 30.

Apple Computer is likely to officially announce iTV, while the long-awaited full video iPod and a cell phone are either near or at the manufacturing phase, but may not be ready to be announced at Macworld Expo. These predictions come via a research note to clients from American Technology analyst Shaw Wu. He also said that Apple will announce improved Windows capability.

A Taiwan consumer electronics company said Friday that it will seek US$100 million in damages from Apple Computer after winning a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Apple over its MP3 digital music players. Luxpro decided on the suit after Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission ruled that Luxpro had not copied Apple's design in launching three MP3 players, according to a Luxpro statement.
